Over the next several weeks, I'll be introducing our new Mission, Vision, and Values statement! Some words of introduction:
Scripture gives us an authoritative view of our identity and purpose. Jesus told us our primary mission is to, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22) Using modern business terminology, that might be more of a vision statement- this is what it looks like when we are fully engaged in God's desire for us.
A mission statement is a statement of the main thing you do. Biblically, I'm not sure there is a better mission statement for Christ-followers than what we call the Great Commission. "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28)
