I want to give up my "topic time" this week and give a huge shout of encouragement and support to Dr. Laura Voss.
Laura is a physician and a follower of Jesus Christ. She has a heart of compassion for those in need, and it shows in her medical practice and in her life and faith. Recently she has been following the plight of the Syrian refugees, and wondered what she might do to help. Through an organization of physicians, she learned of an opportunity to travel to Jordan in November to provide medical care for refugees.
This Saturday, October 24, at 5:00 p.m. our church will host a fund raising dinner for Laura's trip. You'll find the details below. We hope you'll plan to join us, and you may let us know you'll be in attendance by phone (816-246-7474) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
What Laura is doing is a reminder that the mission of God in our lives is life itself. The programs and activities of a local congregation are equipping tools, designed to lead us into worship or to develop our discipleship and community life. But the real work of God is the work around us each day, as we interact with family, neighbors, colleagues, and those who share other parts of our life journey. Laura is finding her mission in the intersection of her skills, training, faith, and current events. All of us have the opportunity to do the same, in ways unique to each one of us.
Thanks, Laura, for your faith and leadership. While you'll be experiencing your mission in Jordan, we'll be supporting you with love, prayer, and encouragement. And financial gifts to make it happen!
