Over the last few weeks our leadership has been working and praying over a new statement of our mission, vision, and values.
Our mission is to build a community of faith, hope, and love. We are learning to believe in Jesus, to dream of the world he envisions, and to love the way he loved.
Our vision: changed and changing lives, a redeemed and restored community, and a world awakened to hope.
I have some honest fears about this kind of public statement. I've heard so many stories from people. Stories about corporations that say noble words but don't mean them. Stories about organizations that write the statements, and then put them on a shelf and forget about them. Stories about workplaces where people use the new language but have no intention of changing their behavior. Stories about people using the new words to fit their own agenda.
I don't believe these horror stories are true of New Springs Community. But I do know that writing a statement and living it are two different things.
