We are now living in the "in-between" time that comes with big changes, including the change of our church name! You won't see the changes happen all at once, but we are hoping to make steps of progress each week. Here's what I posted on Facebook this morning in the group for our congregation:
Hi friends. On October 4 we chose a new name for our congregation, New Springs Community. The name honors the history of each of the previous congregations, New Summit Church and Summit Springs Community Church. The name also evokes some wonderful biblical imagery about the streams and springs of salvation which God offers through Jesus Christ! This morning I've changed the name of this Facebook group. Over the next couple of months we'll be making the necessary changes to make the transition complete: state, federal government, vendors, accounts, web site, Facebook, instagram, twitter, logo, signage, etc. While the analogy isn't perfect by any means, think of this as a soft opening, with our grand opening on Thursday, December 24, 2015: Christmas Eve. There is some really appropriate history here. Our name change vote on October 4 came 21 years and just two days from the charter of New Summit Church on October 2, 1994. And our grand opening will come on the 17th anniversary of the first worship service in our facility at 1800 NE Independence Avenue. Each of the two previous congregations is filled with gratitude for the stories, memories, and most importantly the people who have shared the journey of faith with us from our beginnings until this new beginning. Now we move to a new part of our story. Jesus continues to call, always on the move, inviting us to join God's mission. I'm excited to be part of that mission. Welcome to New Springs Community!
Please let us know as you have questions about the transition. We'll need everyone's help as well. Just as the Royals won't win the World Series without a team effort, we won't move forward with God's mission without that same kind of participation.
